Are you tired of spending too much time and money on manicure/hand spa services because your nail polish doesn’t last long? Do you avoid tasks like washing the dishes, frequent hand washing, and the like, just so you wouldn’t ruin your $15-20 worth of manicure? Sound familiar? Well, you are not alone. I had the same experience before, where mine started chipping off after 3days.
When I realized how much money and time I’ve been spending on nail spa and salons, I finally surrendered to doing my own manicure at home. Eventually, after getting over the mind-set that only spa and nail salons can give you perfect long lasting manicured nails, I unearthed a secret – getting your hand on the perfect nail products ;-). I’ll let you in on the secret, so just read through the article. Enjoy!
Tip no. 1: Invest on high-end nail products. I believe that buying such products will give you a lasting color and quality. This is especially true for your base and top coat. If you currently have no budget to buy them all, try buying one first, because in the long run it would turn out to be much cheaper and more practical to do your own nails.
I’ve listed down the products and their use:
OPI TOP COAT – prevents smudges while drying to a smooth, high gloss, protective shine for a beautiful glossy finish.
SALLY HANSEN Mega Shine – Keep manicures beautiful for up To 10 days! Dries in just 60 seconds! Advanced formula dries your manicure from top to bottom in just 60 seconds — no more smudges! Fuses and seals all your manicure layers into one powerful protective shield that resists chipping, cracking, peeling and damaging moisture. Micro-diamonds add mirror shine and strength.
OPI CHIP SKIP – Just one coat applied to bare natural nails prior to base coat or nail lacquers helps prevent chipping. Recommendation: Patented formula keeps manicures looking beautiful longer
BONDER (Rubberized Polish Gripping Basecoat) – A unique rubberized basecoat, grips lacquer to the nail surface for extra lasting adhesion. The recommend the brand OPI, but you can experiment with other brand if you like.
TIP no. 2: 5 easy steps to have a long lasting manicure:
After cleaning your nails, use Chip Skip on your nail bed.
TIP no. 3: Put acetone on your nails before applying the polish to dehydrate your nails.
Use Orly’s Bonder. Personally, I love the rubberized texture/finish of this product. This serves as the primer before applying the polish. You can also use Essies’ ridge filler as the base coat.
Apply 1 coat of nail polish first. Wait for a couple of minutes to dry before applying the 2nd coat.
TIP no. 4: Finish applying nail polish on one hand first. Let it dry, before proceeding to your other hand.
Apply you favorite top coat. I’m currently using OPI Top Coat. You can also use the Sally Hansen’s Megashine if you prefer another brand.
TIP no. 5: After the manicure is done, dip your fingers into a bowl of iced water. This will seal in the polish on your nails.
Put Cuticle oil on your nails. I like to use OPI’s “You Don’t Know Jacques.”
This is currently my manicure routine, and believe me, my nail polish lasted for 8 long days. Can you believe it? Unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance to take a picture of my nails on the 8th day for I was on a rush to change my nail color to nude for an event.
I hope my tips and techniques will also make your nail polish last longer. Stay tuned for my review on nail polishes in upcoming posts!
